The lowest score is 12 (indicating immense pain and poor function) and the highest score is 48 (indicating no pain and excellent function). It is a tool that is used to assess patient symptoms and is now commonly used as one of many ways to assess outcomes after hip replacement surgery.

This is based on a response rate of 73.8% of patients who were sent the questionnaires, in keeping with what one would expect in terms of response rates.
